lichtrouten 2013 (2) · black laboratory performance

Ja................für mich dieses Jahr eine der nachhaltig beeindruckendsten Installationen auf den Lichtrouten: die Licht-Choreographie von Diana Ramaekers im ehemaligen schwarzen Labor des DIAL (Deutsches Institut für angewandte Lichttechnik) im EGC. Nachdem das DIAL in einen Neubau umgezogen war, stand das schwarze Labor leer und wurde der Künstlerin als Installationsort zugeteilt. 
Nein.............völlige Dunkelheit ist normalerweise nie wirklich dunkel. Irgendein Rest von Licht kommt immer von irgendwo, darum kann nur in dafür eigens eingerichteten Räumen künstlich eine vollkommene Lichtdichtheit erreicht werden, die in diesem Fall einmal Lichtherstellern für ihre Leuchtmitteltests diente. Die Lichtperformance von Diana Ramaekers fand in kleinen Gruppen im geschlossenen Raum statt, zwei Spiegel waren die einzigen Utensilien innerhalb tiefschwarzer Wände, in dem eine Choreographie aus gelenkten Lichtstrahlen dem Zuschauer ein intensives Raumerlebnis zuteil werden ließ. Verstärkt wurde dieser Effekt durch einen feinen Nebel, der das Licht noch deutlicher hervortreten lässt und so geradezu skulpturale Strahlenfiguren erzeugte.
Vielleicht......werden aber die zwei kurzen Momente in völliger Dunkelheit am tiefsten in meinem Gedächtnis bleiben. Schon nach wenigen Sekunden ist eine solch absolute Dunkelheit ohne Kontakt zu Wänden oder einer Person neben sich kaum auszuhalten und man ist froh, wenn man die Anwesenheit anderer Personen hört oder spürt. Gleichzeitig stockt einem der Atem, jeder hält die Luft an und es wird nicht nur vollkommen dunkel, sondern auch sehr still um einen herum, was den Effekt der Beklemmung noch verstärkt. Für Klaustrophobiker sicher keine empfehlenswerte Installation. Wenn aber danach der feine Lichtstrahl aus einer Ecke gekrochen kommt und langsam beginnt, den Fußboden abzutasten, kann man regelrecht die Erleichterung um einen herum spüren! Es war übrigens ausdrücklich erwünscht, sich während der Choreographie im Raum zu bewegen, die Perspektiven zu wechseln und dabei in die Lichtstrahlen zu treten.   

Yes.............this year one of the most strongly impressive installations on Lichtrouten was the light choreography of Diana Ramaekers in the former black laboratory of DIAL (German Institute of applied Lighting Technology) in EGC (start-up center). After DIAL moved into a new building, the black laboratory was vacant and assigned as a place of installation to the artist.
No..............total darkness is usually never really totally dark. Some remains of light always find their way, so complete light-tightness can only be achieved artificially in especially built rooms, which in this case helped lighting companies to do their illuminant tests. The light performance of Diana Ramaekers happened in small groups of visitors within the closed room, two mirrors were the only utensils on black walls, when a choreography of controlled rays of light brought a very intense spatial experience to the audience. This effect was supported by some kind of artificial mist, that gave the light a well-defined constitution and created almost sculptural light ray figures.
Maybe.........the two short moments of total darkness will somehow remain deeply in my brain above all. It just needs a few seconds to reach the point of hardly standing such entirely darkness without touching walls or a person at your side and you're glad to hear or feel the presence of other people. At the same time you're tongue-tied, everyone holds breath and so it's not only totally dark but also very quiet around you, which intensifies the feeling of oppression. Surely no advisable installation for claustrophobics! But when the fine ray of light comes creeping out of an edge of the room and slowly starts scanning the floor you can downright feel the relief around you! By the way, it was explicitly requested to walk around the room during the choreography, to change perspectives and step into the light beams.
