Yes............that was a task of my architectural photography course: "before / after: find a historical picture of your town and try to take a photo of exactly the same spot".
No.............luckily or incidentally the difference here seems to be marginal, disregarding the 4-lane main street, that now runs in front of the Ponttor (one of the two still existing of formerly 11 town gates of Aachen, beginning of 14th century) and keeps the photographer from taking photos of certain perspectives.
Maybe.........anyhow it's quite remarkable to achieve such a similarity, considering the fact that Aachen was heavily damaged during the 2nd World War, very 65% of living space was destroyed, which can still easily be read off the architecture in the city centre even nowadays.

wow. hasn't changed hardly at all! pretty amazing.
AntwortenLöschenExcellent !
AntwortenLöschendo you know that blog: http://dearphotograph.com/ ?
Your pictures made me think about it.
Good day to you
AntwortenLöschenReally great before-after...and the course idea, great!
AntwortenLöschenwow. the more things change, the more they stay the same! it's very rare that we could take the same kind of picture in the u.s.
AntwortenLöschenWhat an excellent project! My DH and I often talk of doing that with family photos of our relatives.
AntwortenLöschenvery interesting ... and very nice pics.
AntwortenLöschenAachen! I used to bike over there from where I was living just across the border (near Maastricht, where I studied). You did capture one of the best parts!
AntwortenLöschenThis is great! It's wonderful that they were able to preserve this so well considering the war.
AntwortenLöschenGood job in think!
AntwortenLöschennot much has changed, also i like the photo above, because teh street looks so wide there!!
AntwortenLöschenyou took your photos from exactly the same angle, and I realize how deceptive it is: it looks like very little changed, and no destruction happened.
AntwortenLöschenso? would this be your hometown too, tania? because this would not be too far out from us then... close to the border.
AntwortenLöscheni love townscapey before and afters! good job!
n♥

Michaela
AntwortenLöschenWow! But oh, that sign hurts my eyes...
AntwortenLöschenWonderful! So similar and yet so many changes when you look closely - like the middle roof window that is no longer.
